Get Paid to Fly
AlphaFlight fosters a strong culture of giving back and one of the best ways to give back as an aviator is to become a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI/CFII). In fact, Jake, our General Manager and former Pilot Trainer for a regional airline, prefers training and mentoring pilots to flying full time.
“I enjoy instructing … teaching and sharing something with others.” – Jake Marohn

Q & A.
A Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) is authorized to teach private and commercial pilot students, while a Certified Flight Instructor – Instrument (CFII) can specifically teach instrument rating students and conduct instrument proficiency checks. Adding a CFII expands your teaching capabilities, allowing you to train students in flying under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR).
To become a CFI, you need a Commercial Pilot Certificate, a valid FAA Medical Certificate, and a valid Fundamentals of Instruction (FOI) knowledge test endorsement. For a CFII, you’ll need to hold an instrument rating on your Commercial Certificate and pass the Instrument Flight Instructor knowledge test. Both require practical exams with a Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE).
Becoming a CFI/CFII is one of the fastest and most cost-effective ways to build flight hours while sharing your passion for aviation. It also refines your own piloting skills as you teach others and opens the door to professional opportunities in flight schools, airlines, or corporate aviation. If you’re serious about a career in aviation, this is a critical step in your journey.
